How to Password Protect a WordPress Page

Password protecting a WordPress page can be a useful tool for a variety of reasons. You may want to restrict access to certain content, such as premium content for subscribers or sensitive information that should only be accessible to a select group of people. By password protecting a page, you can ensure that only those with the correct password can view the content.

Method 1: Password Protect a Page from WordPress wp-admin

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the page you want to password protect. You can do this by clicking on Pages from the left-hand menu, then All Pages.
  3. Click on the page you want to protect.
  4. In the Publish box on the right-hand side, click on the Edit link next to Visibility.
  5. Select Password protected.
  6. Enter your desired password in the box that appears.
  7. Click OK, then Update to save your changes.

Now, when someone tries to view this page, they will be prompted to enter a password.

Method 2: Password Protect a Page from Site Tools -> Security -> Protected URLs

  1. Log in to your Site Tools dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Security from the left-hand menu, then select Protected URLs.
  3. Type in the URL of the page you want to protect in the Path field.
  4. Enter a username and password.
  5. Click Protect to save your changes.

Now, when someone tries to access the page, they will be prompted to enter the username and password.

Remember, password protecting a page should not be the only security measure you take. Always ensure your WordPress site is up to date, use strong passwords, and consider other security plugins and measures to keep your site safe.
