Domain name transfer statuses explained

If you are a SiteGround customer and you have ordered a domain name transfer to us, you can check the status of the transfer from your Client Area > Services > Domains.

When the transfer has been initiated you will see a label and a domain transfer status that explains the state of your domain transfer process.

By clicking on the Refresh Status button located under the domain transfer status you can refresh the status of your domain transfer process.

Pending Approval or Pending Owner Approval

If you see one of the above statuses, this means that you should have received an email to your administrative email address with instructions on how to confirm your domain transfer.

Pending Registry Approval

This status means that your transfer order has been submitted and it is pending final confirmation from the previous registrar before the transfer is completed.

Transfer failed

Your transfer order has been declined by either the domain owner or the previous registrar. Check your administrative email for more information or contact us for assistance by clicking on the Contact Support button.

Please unlock the domain

If you see this status it means that the domain transfer was not initiated because your domain is locked. You can unlock your domain from the domain’s current registrar control panel, look for domain lock and change it to unlocked. Keep in mind that sometimes it takes a few hours for the unlock to be processed.

Once your domain is unlocked, you can restart your domain transfer by clicking the “Restart Transfer” button under the domain transfer status.
